According to the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv, Norway and the EU are scheduled to enter into a green industry agreement during the climate summit in Sharm El-Sheik in November.

The agreement would link Norway even more closely to the EU in the form of cooperation in batteries, minerals, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and offshore wind, the newspaper reports.

In a draft agreement that the Norwegian government sent to the EU at the start of this month, according to DN, it appears that Norway wants Norwegian oil and gas to have a priority place in the green agreement.

“The EU supports Norway’s continued exploration and investment in order to secure oil and gas for the European market,” it allegedly reads.

The newspaper further writes that the text will now be “polished” in the EU and that it is not a given that this will be the final wording.

DN has asked State Secretary Erling Rimestad (AP) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to comment on the case.

“The government is now working to follow up the work related to the joint declaration between Norway and the EU, launched by European Commission President von der Leyen and Prime Minister Støre in February 2022,” Rimestad said.
