Newly established companies in 2019 had a “survival” rate of 44%. Three out of five joint-stock companies and one out of three sole proprietorships still existed in 2020.

The “survival” rate for newly established enterprises after one year has remained stable since 2016, at 44%, according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

In 2019, 38,500 sole proprietorships and 25,500 limited liability companies were established.

One year later, 34% of sole proprietorships and 60% of joint-stock companies were registered as active in 2020.

After five years, only 26.5% were still in business, i.e., around one in four companies established in 2015 were still operating in 2020.

Statistics Norway states that it is too early to say how the pandemic period has affected the rates.
